Thanksgiving

Alright...looks like we will be staying here for Thanksgiving.  This is the first year that I am not working outside of the home.  I am also way more comfortable with Paleo now so will be having a Paleo Thanksgiving menu. 

This is how I imagine it going down.  <insert dreamy music and fog around the edges>

Snacks in the am...maybe something yummy for breakfast...depends on how nice I am feeling. 
Parade watching.  This is where my imagination is coming into play because NO ONE seems to like the parade as much as me in this house.  Maybe Boaz.  That remains to be seen since it will be his first Thanksgiving and all.  Hot mulled cider in the crock pot.  Yum!!!

Then around 1 or 2 eat Thanksgiving meal.  I am totally imagining surprising Lorelei with the turkey having hearts all over it...inspired by this idea...

While I totally love this turkey I think it is a little too grown-uppy for our table and possibly traumatizing.  Thus my thoughts on hearts.  

During the meal we talk about things we are thankful for.  Then we clean up the kitchen and after everything has settled we bring out the desserts!  We always have stuffing made inside the turkey, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and probably more...

Don't worry about giving me Paleo recipes...I can worry with that later.  I am wanting to know what you eat at Thanksgiving...what are your plans, what do I not want to forget etc. 

Tree goes up next week people.  I love the holiday season!  It is about to get real up in here!

Love it! I'm the only one in my house who will be attentive to parade watching as well.

HOW in the WORLD do you put stuff ON a turkey? Where did you see it? I thought that was TOO CUTE & I can't wait to see your turkey!

We have turkey (if it's at Mom & Dad's it's baked; if here it's deep-fried), sweet potato casserole (even though I'm the ONLY one who eats it), green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, dressing (outside the turkey), purple hull peas, & homemade rolls from the recipe my sweet Mammaw used. Greg's request for dessert this year is my Caramel Apple Cobbler. Various other dishes end up showing up; but those are the staples are our Thanksgiving Celebration.

We may have a little leftover birthday cake since Greg's is the Saturday before & mine is the day before....

Putting stuff on the turkey: Apparently you just lay the foil on it in the shapes you want and then roast like you normally would. Haven't tried it yet so I will let you know. I saw that years ago in a magazine I think.

Tasha: I would love your sweet potato casserole recipe and do you share your homemade roll recipe? AND definitely will need the Caramel Apple Cobbler recipe.

Emily: yes, next week. Boaz's pics are on Saturday and we will be choosing Christmas cards from that so we want the tree up. :)

Thanks for sharing about how to put stuff on the turkey!!! Next time we roast it (as we deep-fry it most years), I will have to try this!

I will DEFINITELY share recipes with you. I'll blog about them sometime SOON! I think my Sweet Potato Casserole recipe comes from the back of the marshmellow packet...I may or may not add extra brown sugar & marshmellows ;-)

The Homemade Roll Recipe was my grandmothers (my Dad's Mom that passed away a few years ago...I can't remember exactly when cause I like to celebrate her life by observing her birthday instead of focusing on that she's gone by dwelling on the day she died)....but it's published in a church cookbook so it's no family secret or anything. It's just special to me cause it was her's (AND she gave me HER copy of the cookbook when they were cleaning out their house before moving into assisted living).

Caramel Apple Cobbler recipe IS actually a Tasha original (those are FEW & far between!). I developed it when making Caramel Apple Fried Pies for a BBQ Competition.....but the pies involve more work than I want to put in when I'm cooking for the family during the holidays...so I turned it into a cobbler. Like I said...I'll blog them all before too long =D
