Read Receipts

Ok, this is gonna sound crazy but I felt like I should share my thoughts on this issue.  When the iPhones updated their OS everyone had the option of letting people know when they had read the message.  At first I declined because I thought, "Oh no...then people will know I have read their message and just haven't responded!"

When Chris updated his phone he accepted read receipts.  I came to enjoy knowing if/when he had read my messages. And then...you might find this funny but the Lord started dealing with my heart about the goofy read receipts.

I am not telling you all of this to try and convince you to enable read receipts on your phone...I'm just telling you why I did.

The Lord has been working on my heart about being a good friend.  About taking friendships to the next level.  Not backing off when things get messy and to really dig deep.  I know my friends need to be able to count on me.  So...it shouldn't hurt me to show them that I have read their message.  It will hold me accountable to respond.  And guess what?  They know life is crazy and I might be able to read their message but not respond for a couple of minutes, or even hours.

Another benefit, at least with Chris is if I see that he has read but not responded it gives me an opportunity to reword to elicit a response.

So, I'm curious...why or why not regarding read receipts?  I only have three people in my life that have enabled read receipts so I know it is not the popular choice.

I started using read receipts because of you. I too have enjoyed knowing a person had read what I sent them. I know if they are delayed in responding then they are either prayerfully considering their response, or need me to be praying for them cause things in their face are a little more pressing than my message.
